The Importance of Matchmaking in Astrology

15 Feb, 2024 by Astroway

In Indian culture, matchmaking through astrology—known as kundli milan—is a time-honored tradition, especially in arranged marriages. It is believed that a successful marriage is not just a union of two individuals, but a coming together of energies, temperaments, and destinies. Astrology provides a structured way to assess this compatibility.

Why is Matchmaking Important in Astrology?

  1. Compatibility Check:
Matchmaking compares the horoscopes (kundlis) of the bride and groom to evaluate physical, emotional, and mental compatibility. This is believed to enhance marital harmony and reduce conflicts.

  2. Guna Milan System:
The most common method used is the Ashtakoota system, which assigns points (or gunas) based on eight different aspects such as personality, health, and family background. A total of 36 points can be matched—higher the score, better the compatibility.

  3. Manglik Dosha Analysis:
Special attention is given to Manglik dosha (a condition caused by Mars' position), which can impact marital life. Remedies are often suggested if one partner is Manglik and the other is not.

  4. Longevity and Health:
Astrological charts also predict the general health and longevity of the couple, helping families make informed decisions about long-term well-being.

  5. Timing of Marriage:
Astrology also helps determine the most auspicious time (muhurat) for the wedding, believed to bring luck and prosperity to the couple.

While modern views on love and marriage are evolving, astrology-based matchmaking continues to hold significant value in Indian society. For many, it offers not just tradition, but a sense of reassurance and spiritual alignment.
